Order Neuroptera (Lacewings)

A diverse group of medium to large lacewings. A minority of genera and species are aquatic or semiaquatic. Osmylid larvae are of typical neuropteroid form: ie. elongate with long, pointed, forward-facing mouthparts, multisegmented antennae, three free thoracic segments (at least the first strongly sclerotised), and a tapering abdomen without external gills.
