Tritosternum
Primitively the Parasitiformes have an idiosomal process that projects under the gnathosoma and is thought to represent the sternal portion of the third body segment (and hence tritosternum). In the Opilioacarida, the tritosternum is composed of two finger-like processes, but in the Mesostigmata (and some Holothyrida) the tritosternum is composed of a stalk-like base and two flagella, although often the flagella are fused and sometimes subdivided.
