Shrub or tree to 10m tall.  ‘Leaves’ alternating up the stems, linear to flat, 1-13mm wide, hairy or hairless, occasionally sticky, edges smooth.  Flower heads yellow, cylindrical, single, the stalks arising from the bases of the 'leaves'.

Acacia aneura var. aneura has 'leaves' that are 3-9.5cm long, and less than 2.3mm wide, and the pods are wingless or the wings less than 0.4mm wide.

Acacia aneura var. intermedia has 'leaves' that are 3-9cm long and 2.5-6mm wide, and 20-45 times as long as wide, the pods have a wing at least 1mm wide, and the; and the hairs on the branchlets do not obscure the longitudinal ribs. 

Acacia aneura var. major  has 'leaves' that are 2-8cm long and 2.5-13mm wide, and 3.5-25 times longer than wide, the pods have a wing at least 1mm wide, and the hairs on the branchlets obscure the longitudinal ribs.
