Shrub 1-3m tall.  ‘Leaves’ alternating up the stems, 1-3cm long, 1-4mm wide, flat to linear, occasionally flattened cylindrical, hairless, sticky, sometimes mealy, edges smooth, with a straight or curved point.  Flower heads yellow, spherical, the flower stalks arising from the bases of the 'leaves', borne singly or in pairs. 

Differs from Acacia sclerophylla var. sclerophylla in that the branches and 'leaves' are resinous and sticky, and the flower stalks are densely yellow hairy.
