Notes

Perennial grass to 1.5m tall.  Leaves with a hairy to hairless sheath at the base.  Ligule a membrane without a fringe of hairs.  Leaves to 50cm long, 3-10mm wide, hairless to slightly rough, the lower leaves flat, the upper leaves with the edges rolled inwards.  Spikelets with a violet tinge, becoming pale, 6-10mm long, excluding the awn.  Mature seed groups spreading.  Seeds with 1 long awn.
