Pointed Mallee, Red Mallee, Summer Red Mallee, Grey Mallee
Mallee or tree to 12m tall. Bark smooth throughout or rough below, smooth above. New bark orange. Leaves aromatic when crushed, alternating up the stems, 5-14cm long, 8-25 mm wide, flat, hairless, dull, pale or green, rarely glaucous. Flowers white to cream or yellow, with 0 petals, in clusters of 7-15 at the bases of the leaves. Bud caps longer than base or about the same length as the base. Nuts that have dropped their seed have slender fragile valves protruding strongly. Eucalyptus socialis in NSW.
