Introduced perennial forb to 70cm tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, 4-15cm long, 5-20mm wide, flat, hairy, the edges entire, toothed, or lobed. Flower heads with many yellow ’petals’ with deep red to brown or purple bases, and purple to black centres, borne singly at the ends of the stems.
