Introduced annual rush to 10cm tall. Leaves basal, with a reddish sheath at the base, shorter than the flower stalks, to 4cm long, awl-like. Spikelets staw-coloured to yellowish or green, with a red, brown, or purplish patch near the tip, 3-7mm long. Flower heads of 1-12 spikelets in clusters at the tops of the flower stems, subtended by a leaf-like bract.
