Perennial sedge to 60cm tall. Leaves basal, with a hairless sticky sheath at the base, as long as the flower stems, 2-7mm wide, flat, hairless, sticky, margins very rough, sticky, often with short hairs. Spikelets with 0 petals, red-brown to blackish-brown, 4-7mm long, in oblong spike-like clusters along the stem, each with a leaf-like bract at the base. Grows on sand hills in mallee communities.
