Perennial or annual aquatic forb in water to 1m deep. Leaves basal. Floating leaves with oval blades, 2-16cm long, 30-60mm wide, submerged leaves strap-like, 5-15cm long. Flowers with 3 creamy white to pale pink petals with a dark red base, solitary on stems arising from the base of the plant. Submerged flowers that self-pollinate without opening also occur. Rare SA.
