Annual forb to 40cm tall.  Leaves alternating up the stems, 1-5cm long, 2-5mm wide, linear to flat, hairy, the upper leaves stem clasping.  Flowers cream to yellow, often pink in bud, with 0 petals.  Flower heads cylindrical to top-shaped, in compact clusters at the ends of the stems.
