Annual or perennial forb or shrub to 1.6m tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, compound, with about 15-31 leaflets each 0.2-1.6cm long, 2-10mm wide, flat, hairy becoming hairless, with blunt or notched tips. Flowers reddish purple or blue, rarely white, with 5 petals, two almost joined together. Flowers in long cylindrical racemes, borne on the ends of the stems.
