Shrub or perennial forb to 1m tall or sprawling.  Succulent stems.  Leafless.  Flowers tiny (less than 3mm across), succulent, in spikes to 5cm long at the ends of the stems, occasionally originating between the segments of the stems.  Fruiting perianth succulent, spongy or papery. Was Halosarcia pergranulata.

Ssp. pergranulata and ssp. divaricata  occur in the area covered by this key.

Definite differentiation between most species of Tecticornia depends on details of the seeds, which needs a microscope to see.
