Introduced annual or biennial forb to 40cm tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, composed of 3 leaflets, each 0.5-2cm long, 2-4mm wide, flat, hairy, edges smooth, or toothed in the upper parts, tips blunt with short points, often notched. Individual flowers pea-shaped, pink to mauve, with 5 petals, 2 almost joined together, the petals much shorter than the calyx, in furry oval to cylindrical groups, the stalks arising from the bases of the leaves.
