Introduced annual forb to 1.6m tall. Stems becoming woody at the base. Lower leaves opposite each other, upper leaves alternating up the stems. Leaves with basal lobes, 4-10cm long, 10-40mm wide, flat, hairy, edges toothed to deeply lobed, with pointed tips. Flowers yellow, with 12-15 'petals'. Flower heads below the 'petals' hemispherical, borne singly or in loose groups of 2-6 at the ends of the stems.  Verbesina encelioides ssp. encelioides in NSW.
