Genus: Aleurolobus Cockerell

 Nomenclature [Martin 1999: 43]:

Aleurolobus Quaintance & Baker [Cohic, 1969: 59-61]

Aleurolobus Quaintance & Baker, 1914: 108-109

Biology [Martin 1999: 43]: Puparia normally black or brown, sometimes pale; oval-rotund-shaped; sometimes with a narrow fringe of white wax non the black puparia; about 50 species are described.

Distribution [Martin 1999: 43]: Although a predominately from Asia & Africa New World species, occurs in other areas.

Taxonomy [Martin 1999: 43]: Margin. Crenulated and sometimes modified at the thoracic & caudal tracheal openings usually modified with combs of teeth (from 2 to several) and some ventral stippling present in the tracheal folds. Dorsum. A concentric dorsal suture-like fold present separating the submargin from the dorsal disk extending to the caudal furrow. Easy to confuse with a ventral fold. Vasiform orifice elongate-chordate to rounded-triangular containing a lingula (inserted) and usually partially, but not completely obscured by a similarly shaped operculum. Chaetotaxy. Cephalic, first & eighth abdominal segment, and caudal pairs of setae present; variable number of submarginal setae present.

Natural Enemies: See species list below.

Similar genera: Related to several genera by having a marginal fold separating the submargin from the dorsal disk. With normally a dark cuticle, this genus differs from Dialeurodes which has the thoracic cleft modified into a pore or plate with a thoracic furrow. Aleurolobus tracheal clefts may not be modified; or if so, by the number of and differently-sized teeth.
