Tarsal Segmentation
A 1-2 segmented tarsus is the norm for most groups of arthropods, but insects commonly have up to 5 tarsal segments (tarsomeres) and several groups of arachnids (whipscorpions, some opilionids) have one or more pairs of tarsi highly subdivided. Most mites have 1-segmented tarsi, but a few have 2-segments, and rarely (e.g. some Anystidae) highly subdivided tarsi.
