Propagule or dispersal unit is the fruit with pappus. Fertile part 1.5-3 mm long, 0.4-0.9 mm wide, in side view widest in upper part (obovoid), rarely mostly +/- equal thickness (cylindrical), +/- straight, the upper (apical) end narrowing, rarely suddenly cut off (truncate) (by misinterpretation), in cross-section flattened, rarely round (terete), basal scar (carpopodium) pronounced and well-differentiated, central or off to the side (oblique) or at least asymmetric, beak (=thinner sterile stalk between seed and pappus) absent, wings absent, fruit surface light brown or straw or dark brown, smooth (except at cellular level), with simple straight hairs, thickened margin absent, longitudinal ribs present, 2-8, their surfaces smooth, with no hairs (glabrous).
Pappus type bristles / hairs, pappus elements all +/- similar, up to 3.5-7 mm long, in several rows, pappus elements numerous, persistent, the individual bristles rough / serrated (barbellate), clearly wider at base, white / translucent or yellowish.
Perennial herb, seeds wind-dispersed. Warm-temperate to subtropical regions. Found in mulga vegetation and between sand dunes.
