Type locality: One Tree Sinkhole, near Mount Gambier, South Australia.

Biology and ecology

Known only as dead shells collected from a sink hole.

Distribution

This species is currently only known from a sinkhole near Mt Gambier, south-eastern South Australia, from empty shells.

Notes

Most species of Austropyrgus are geographically isolated and have restricted ranges, and this one is no exception.

Austropyrgus vastus is known only from empty shells. It was named because of its very distinctive shape, which matches no other species of Austropyrgus.
