Phrantela richardsoni Ponder & Clark, 1993

Diagnostic features

Differs from the other conical species  in its much larger size, shell with protoconch of about 1.5 whorls (not 1.75) and small umbilicus (closed in other taxa). There are also radular and anatomical differences.

Type locality: Small tributary of Olga River, Tasmania (42°51'02"S., 145°39'21''E).

Biology and ecology

This species lives in black, sticky mud. Egg capsules unknown but probably like those of an unnamed species of Phrantela; small, with single embryo, and covered in coarse sand grains. Development direct.

Distribution

This species is known from a small tributary of Olga River, southwest Tasmania.
