Trichoptera
Phylum Arthropoda
Class Insecta
Order Trichoptera
These small flying insects have aquatic larvae that form cases composed of bits of detritus, plants or sand grains. Larvae of members of the Helicopsychidae make snail-like cases usually using sand grains, while members of the Odontoceridae make tapering tubes resembling scaphopod shells but composed of sand grains.
