Identifying features of genus
Adults
- Anal groove: Inapparent in male; In female surrounds the anus closely then passes back as single median groove
- Eyes: Present
- Festoons: Present numbering with 11 indicated in female and 9 indistinct festoons indicated in male
- Basis capituli: Subtriangular
- Ornamentation: Extensive ornamentation on palps, basis capituli, scutum and legs (extensive golden yellow pattern on brown base).
- Legs: ventrally deep red
- Palpi: long with article 2 being appreciably narrower than article 3
- Hypostome: long with 3/3 dentition
- Spiracles: Spriacular plate with irregular ridges
- Ventral plates (males only): One pair of adanal shields only, no accessory and subanal shields

- Anal groove: Absent
- Palpi: Moderately elongate (>2.5x width) and articles 2 and 3 not fused
- Lateral large wax glands: Present and located between setae s6 (Md3) and S1 (Md4) and gland unpaired

- Post hypostoma setae: 1 pair
- Parma: Without lyrifissure pair iSv6 present

- Types from hippopotamus but the black rhinoceros is probably the main host
