Eyes: 3-8 ocelli
Antennae: relatively short
Mouthparts: mandibles, maxillae (gnathochilarium)
Legs: 3-numerous pairs, two pairs per diplosegment in middle of body
Respiration: cuticular
Gonopore: venter of 3rd trunk segment (behind 2nd pair of legs)
Distinguishing features: dense bristly hairs in lateral bands, posterior pencil tufts, trichobothria on head
