Introduced annual forb to 1m tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, flat, 2-30cm long, almost circular, hairy, margins entire or toothed, and with pointed tips. Flowers yellow to orange, with 5 petals, borne singly on stalks originating at the base of the leaves.

Differs from Abutilon fraseri, Abutilon halophilum, and Abutilon otocarpum in that the fruitlets in the fruiting body have distinct awns.
