Introduced biennial or perennial forb to 3m tall. Leaves alternating up the stem, the bases usually with cordate lobes. Leaves nearly circular, entire to deeply 3-7 lobed, slightly to densely rough hairy, toothed. Lower leaves flat, circular to about 30cm wide, upper leaves smaller. Flowers with 5 white to yellow or pink, to dark red or purple petals, on stems originating at the bases of the leaves, forming a leafy raceme -like group at the top of the stem.
