Perennial forb or shrub to 40cm tall, or sprawling. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1-3cm long, flat, scaly-hairy, margins entire to toothed. Flowers tiny (less than 3mm across), male and female flowers on the same plant, in clusters at the bases of the leaves. Male flowers sometimes in interrupted spikes at the ends of the branches.
