Perennial grass to 60cm tall. Leaves with a hairless, hairy, or rough sheath at the base. Ligule a membrane with or without a fringe of hairs. Leaves thread-like, rolled, or edges rolled inwards, to 20cm long, to 2mm wide, hairy. Spikelets green-purple, 9-14mm long. Mature seed groups cylindrical, occasionally spreading. Mature seeds gold brown, with 1 long awn. Rare Vic.
