Annual or perennial forb, prostrate to upright, stems to 60cm or more long. Leaves opposite each other, 1.2-5cm long, 7-35mm wide, flat, hairy, with toothed to entire margins. Flowers pink, mauve, or white, tubular, with 5 lobes, in dense clusters of 3-10 flowers on short stems arising from the bases of the leaves and/or the ends of the stems.
Differs from Boerhavia dominii in that the stems are densely sticky hairy, with hairs more than 0.5mm long.
