Annual forb to 25cm tall. Leaves basal or alternating up the stems, flat, 3-8cm long, 9-12mm wide, hairless, dissected into 5-9 linear segments with blunt tips, stem leaves sometimes sheathing the lower part of the flower stalk. Flower heads hemispherical, with 8-16 'petals', white (var. alba) or blue, at least on the underside (var. dichromosomatica). Flowers single at the ends of the stems. 'Petals' 5-12mm long.
