Introduced annual or biennial forb 20cm-1m tall. Leaves basal and alternating along the stems, 2-9cm long, 2-15mm wide, flat, hairy, rough, edges toothed, sometimes the teeth obscure. Basal leaves withering early, upper leaves entire. Flower heads white to pink, sometimes tinged purple, with 0 petals, hemispherical, in open groups at the ends of the stems.
