Annual sedge to 20cm tall. Leaves basal, with a sheath at the base, as long as the flowering stems or much shorter, to 2mm wide, flat, hairless. Spikelets 5-20mm long, 2-3mm wide, pale yellow to red-brown, with 0 petals, arranged at the tops of the flowering stems in a single cluster, or digitate with 2-6 branches consisting of spikelets arranged in spikes, the whole subtended by 2-6 narrow leaf-like bracts, 2-4 of which are longer than the flower clusters. Grows in damp places. Rare SA. Endangered Vic. Threatened list Vic.
