Perennial forb to 1.2 tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, or a few near the base of the plant opposite each other, 1.5-6.5cm long, 2-8mm wide, linear to flat, hairy, greyish at least when young, minutely toothed in the upper half or only near the rounded tip. Flowers purplish pink to cream to white, with 4 'petals', solitary on short stalks at the bases of the leaves. In shady, damp, or waste places.
