Notes

Shrub or perennial forb to 30cm tall or sprawling.  Leaves alternating up the stems, 0.5-1cm long, flat and narrow to almost cylindrical, hairy, with pointed tips.  Flowers tiny (less than 3mm across), solitary at the bases of the leaves, usually forming dense leafy spikes.  Fruiting bodies hairy, with 5 spine-like wings, and 5 lobed or divided spine-like erect appendages on the body.  Maireana sclerolaenoides in NSW.
