Shrub or perennial forb to 1m tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, 1-5cm long, to 40mm wide, flat, hairy, toothed,tips blunt on lower leaves, pointed or 3-lobed on upper leaves. Flowers with 5 inconspicuous green, yellowish, or white petals, scarsely longer than the sepals, in few flowered clusters (usually 3 flowers)at the bases of the leaves, often appearing to be in dense leafy spike -like clusters towards the ends of the stems.
