Perennial forb or shrub to 60cm tall, usually with a woody base. Leaves alternating up the stems, leaf bases continuing down the stems. Leaves 1-1.5cm long, 1-1.5mm wide, linear to flat, densely hairy, with pointed tips. Flower heads yellow, with 0 petals, hemispherical, borne singly at the ends of the stems.
Differs from Leiocarpa websteri in that the bracts on the flower heads below the florets are woolly, and its leaves are narrower. It intergrades with Leiocarpa websteri in NSW.
