Perennial forb, mat forming or to 80cm tall. Leaves with a strong mint smell when crushed, opposite each other, 0.6-6cm long, 4-20mm wide, flat, with embedded aromatic glands, hairless to hairy, dotted with glands, the margins entire or toothed. Flowers white, pink, or purple, tubular, with 4 lobes, vaguely 2-lipped, in dense 3-16 flowered clusters at the bases of paired leaves.
