Introduced perennial aquatic or semi-aquatic forb, stems to 5m long, usually emerging up to 30cm above the water. Leaves whorled. Emergent leaves usually in whorls of 5-6, mostly 2.5-3.5cm long, 5-15mm wide, flat, glaucous, deeply dissected into 20-36 linear segments. Submerged leaves in whorls of 4-6, to 4cm long, 8-12mm wide. Male and female flowers on different plants. Only female plants in Australia. Flowers small (less than 3mm across). Flowers with 4 sepals, 0 petals, solitary at the bases of the leaves. Male flowers red, female flowers white. Flowers solitary at the bases of the leaves.
