Introduced annual forb to 50cm tall. Leaves basal and alternating up the stems, 2-15cm long, flat, hairy, lobed and toothed. Flowers subtended by paired leaf-like bracts. Flowers dark pink to purplish red, with 4 petals, solitary on stalks arising from the bases of the 'leaves'.
