Introduced annual or perennial grass to 35cm tall. Leaves with a hairy sheath at the base. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Leaves 1-6cm long, 1-3mm wide, flat or with the margins rolled in, hairless or hairy, margins sticky hairy. Spikelets 2-3mm long. Mature seed groups spreading. Seeds with 1 long awn and 2 short awns, in pairs. Pentaschistis airoides in NSW.
