Forb to 35cm tall, growing annually from an underground tuber. Leaves basal, in a rosette, 1-3cm long, 5-15mm wide, flat, often withered at flowering time. Small leaf-like bracts up the stem, often withered at flowering time. Flowers green, sometimes almost transparent, with 6 'petals', the top 3 joined together to form a hood, the bottom 2 joined together, and a tongue ‘petal’ (labellum) in the middle. 2-20 flowers at the top of the stem.
