Introduced annual to perennial forb 10-80cm tall. Leaves fleshy, basal and alternating up the stems, stem leaves sometimes stem clasping. Leaves 2-17cm long, 5-70mm wide, flat, hairless, margins lobed toothed, or entire, usually minutely prickly. Flowers with many yellow ‘petals’ which are reddish to purplish at the base. Flower heads cup shaped to oval, borne singly at the ends of the stems.
