Perennial grass to 1.15m tall. Leaves mostly basal, with a hairless sheath at the base. Ligule a fringe of short hairs. Leaves flat or the edges rolled inwards, 1-3mm wide, sparsely hairy to hairy. Spikelets pale greenish to straw-coloured, 12-16mm long excluding the longest awn. Mature seed groups cylindrical or oval. Seeds with 3 awns.
