Introduced perennial forb to 70cm tall. Leaves aromatic when crushed. Leaves basal and opposite each other, bases sometimes lobed, flat, hairy, gland-dotted, dissected or toothed. Lower leaves 2.5-20cm long, 15-100mm wide, stem leaves smaller. Flowers more or less fragrant. Flowers purple, blue or mauve, pink, sometimes white, tubular, 2-lipped, with 5 lobes, in 6-10 flowered whorls subtended by paired 'leaves'.
