Short lived perennial forb or shrub to 30cm tall. Leaves succulent, alternating up the stems, 0.6-1.5cm long, 1mm wide, narrow cylindrical, hairy to hairless, with blunt tips. Flowers small (less than 3mm across), solitary at the bases of the leaves. Burrs hairy or hairless, with 4-6 spreading spines.
