Annual forb to 3m tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, compound, composed of 20-90 leaflets. Leaflets each 0.5-20mm long, 1-4mm wide, flat, hairy when young, becoming hairless, tips blunt or with a short point. The main stalk of the leaves sometimes minutely prickly. Flowers pea-shaped, with 5 petals, 2 almost joined together, yellow to orange-yellow, the upright petal often streaked or spotted with purple on the back. Flowers in racemes of 1-6 flowers, arising from the bases of the leaves. Vulnerable Vic (as Sesbania cannabina var. cannabina).
