Introduced annual forb, prostrate. Leaves basal, with sheathing bases, 4-13cm long, 10-40mm wide, flat, carrot-like, dissected, sparsely hairy, more hairy near the base. Flower heads greenish, with 0 petals, more or less globular, stalkless, forming dense clusters in the centre of the plant. Burrs composed of many seeds, each seed hairy at the top with a spine 2-3mm long.
