Perennial forb to 90cm tall. Leaves opposite each other, hairy, 1-5cm long, 2-12mm wide, flat, hairy, the edges often unevenly curved downwards and/or often wavy, entire or sometimes lobed. Flowers white, tubular, with five lobes, solitary (rarely 3) at the bases of the leaves.

Varieties are no longer recognised. Teucrium racemosum var. polymorphum (page 577) is now included in Teucrium racemosum. Teucrium racemosum var. tripartitum (page 578) is now Teucrium albicaule.
