Introduced annual grass to 60cm tall. Leaves with a sheath at the base. Ligule a membrane without a fringe of hairs. Leaves 1.5-15cm long, to 2mm wide, flat, rolled when dry, surface hairless or hairy, upper surface often rough, edges rough. Spikelets 5-12mm long excluding the awns. Mature seed groups cylindrical to slightly spreading. Seeds with 1 awn, in groups of 2-9.
