Perennial forb to 95cm tall. Leaves alternating up the stems, sometimes the lowermost opposite each other, 0.5-8cm long, 1-15mm wide, flat, becoming linear up the stem, lower leaves hairy, upper leaves hairless, edges flat to wavy, entire or toothed. Flowers blue, tubular, with 5 lobes, in open groups at the tops of the stems.
Differs from Wahlenbergia gracilenta , Wahlenbergia gracilenta , Wahlenbergia gracilis and Wahlenbergia tumidifructa in that the free flower lobes are 6-19mm long, from Wahlenbergia fluminalis, Wahlenbergia queenslandica, and Wahlenbergia stricta ssp. alterna in that the free flower lobes are about three times as long as the flower tube, from Wahlenbergia littoricola in that the lower leaves are broader than in Wahlenbergia littoricola , to 19mm wide, and from Wahlenbergia luteola in that all the leaves are alternating up the stems.
