Perennial grass to 1m tall. Leaves with a hairless or slightly rough sheath at the base. Ligule a lacerated membrane without a fringe of hairs. Leaves 2-20cm long, 2-7mm wide, flat or the margins rolled in, hairless to slightly rough. Spikelets greenish turning purple, 3-4mm long. Seeds with 0 bristles. Mature seed groups spreading.
